Despite a steady day of moisture, 25 teams of golfers competed in the 26th-annual Apple Cobbler Golf Scramble at Pine Creek Golf Course in La Crescent on Saturday. It must be, as the ol' saying goes, that any day on the golf course is better than a day off the course.
Championship flight winners were the Pasvogel team and Hackworth team. In the first flight, winners were the Marmsoler team and the Tom Johnson team.
This was the first time in Cobbler history that the tournament was a shot gun start. The longest drives on holes 1 and 2 were won by Pat Hoffman and Mike McDonough, respectively. Tom Curran won the longest putt on hole 4; Chad Fortsch was closest to the pin on his first shot on hole 7; Don Droog was closest to the pin on his second shot to win at hole 2; and Greg Luederdid did the same on hole 11.
Prizes winners were Gayle Walter, with an Ely fishing trip, and Jesse Goodspeed won a golf trip for two in Hayward, Wis. Both prizes were donated.
